WMF Pedestal Bowl 1880-1910 EPNS Green Glass Liner Art Nouveau Motif Jugendstil

  
Gorgeous Silver plated Footed Bowl by WMF Germany. WMF or as some like to say Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (only kidding) were at the forefront of the Germanic interpretation of French Art Nouveau, known a Jugenstil. The various secession groups that came to the fore during this period contain a whos who of talent that are still highly regarded and acclamied today, Klimt, Moser, Hoffman, Eckmann ect. WMF were based in Geislingen - incidentally there is a'g' impressed on the outside of the footed im on this piece, indicating its origin, as I mentioned I looked into this a bit prior to listing and WMF in 1883 opened there own glass factory to supply the inserts for bowls such as the one here. I would also add although this piece has the exquisite butterly wing handles it may be a transitional piece offering a taste of the new style but a nod to the classical decoration and proportions, its interesting to summise these things. The bowl is also marked to the inside by hand with H139, im not fortunate enough to have a copy of the catalogue to know if this is a pattern number or to tell what it means. Its a really lovely item thats clearly been cherished over its lifetime. I sell in the main my personal preloved items and sometimes these will not have been new when I aquired them, therefore there will be wear and tear.
