The box is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable green/brown. The stained glass is the green white Favrile opalescent. The utility box is a nice size as it is 4 7/16" wide by 3 3/8" deep and 1 13/16 tall. This desk set item is called a utility box.
It display an acid etched pine needle overlay pattern on green/white opalescent glass. It has 2 rows of wonderful beading along the top and a single row along the bottom.
It sits on four tiny round feet. This is the most desirable of the Tiffany Pine Needle boxes as it was considered the fanciest! The patina is extremely nice! The box is considered to be in very good condition as there is only 1 tight line in the front side glass and this is pictured. The hinge is in excellent working condition as the cover opens and closes with ease.
This utility box is signed on the bottom with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed larger typeset mark. There is no pattern number and denotes this as an early box.
Tiffany started numbering his desk set items with a 3 digit number after 1902. I believe the Pine Needle Pattern to have been the first of the Fancy Goods Product lines made at Tiffany Studios. This size utility box is close to pattern number 800 in the later numbered versions.
It is described as a utility box in William Holland's book. I have this priced accordingly. This box sells for more. CLEMENTS ANTIQUES OF NEW HAMPSHIRE STOREFRONT. Please wait for my Invoice before paying.
