A SUPER FINE QUALITY SUFFRAGETTE ART NOUVEAU 15CT YELLOW GOLD, PERIDOT PENDANT / BROOCH COMBINATION - C1890'S. PERIOD BOX - NORTHERN GOLDSMITHS. FULLY STAMPED & 4.54 GRAMS! Suffragette 15ct yellow gold pendant and broooch combination, complete with original detachable bale and original gold bar clasp. This item dates from c1890's and the weight is 4.54 grams. This pendant / brooch is complete with a period prestigious Northern Goldsminths retailers box. This pendant is a charming item and is stamped to the rear of the bale for 15ct gold. The pendant features a drop pendant cabochon stone of Peridot. The other stones are glass and pearls. The pendant has a dtachable bale and can be worn as a brooch or pendant. This type of item is exceptionally rare today's market and were not available commercially in period, so many would have been adapted from period necklaces by jobbing jewellers, resulting in some unusual designs and a large range of styles. This necklace is from an earlier period and would have been up to 10 years old when adapted and is of premium quality, so a rare survivor? The glass stones featured are Peridot for Green, Amethyst for Violet, clear crystal for White, supposedly symbolizing the Suffragette movements mantra, Give Women the Vote?

These colours were first adopted in C1900 and the colours represent G reen for Hope, W hite for purity and V iolet for dignity. Measures 2.0'' in length including the bale and drop pendant. It is 1.25'' at its widest. The weight is 4.54 grams. The box: is a period blue leather covered retailers presentation box, with a black velvet pad and an inscribed satin interior.

It is in antique condition 2/3 and shows minor age related wear but is very sound and is undamaged. This item is in antique condition 1/2. There is no damage to any of the components apart from surface scratching to the larger glass crystals and some age related delamination to the metal work including. The bale is in good order and may be the original.
