Wonderful and rare antique vase featuring Greek mythology motif. My antique experts informed me this is likely Volkstedt / Karl Ens rather than Schafer Vater based on quality of design, color and porcelain.

Slip decorated vase imitative of unglazed biscuit Wedgewood jasperware. White bisque pate-sur-pate slip relief on black ground, celadon green inside.

Decoration features a sea nymph / woman in flowing gown hovering over water from which a lobster is emerging. Very intricate detail, from the woman's face and and gown to the lobster in the waves. Measures 9.5" tall x 5" wide. With impressed marks 15 and 8454 and signed S.

Not perfect but perfectly beautiful, n. O cracks or crazing, with small chip along underside of vase lip, nymph is missing two fingers and whatever "line" connected her to the lobster, other minor surface imperfections.
