The entire vase's surface is filled by the light washes that accent the colors of the vase. CONDITION: While this vase is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines.
The gold trim around the top rim is slightly worn. DIMENSIONS: The vase has a diameter of 7 1/2" and a height of 4 5/8". It is very stable with a base of 4 5/8. HISTORY/MARKS: The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limoges region dating all the way back to the 1700's.
Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business was carried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were used beginning in 1851 and the specific one that is on this plate is called mark #5 Mary Frank Gaston in Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3.
