This has to be a one-off! A completely hand crafted brooch with Arts and Crafts heart shaped leaves from c1905, complete with fabulous nephrite jades stones, which has a miniature, hand crafted and wonderful A&C lantern suspended from it.
I believe it may have been a specially commissioned hand rafted piece from one of the Guilds, I would suggest the Guild of Handicraft, because of the lantern connection. This is the kind of piece that makes your heart leap, as a collector of A&C. To have such a beautifully executed brooch with these tendrils and precisely crafted heart-shaped leaves, complete with a drop suspended under the main jade stone-well, that would be lovely in isolation. However, the long chains suspend the most wonderful execution of an Arts and Crafts lantern c1900, complete with hand hammered detail, legs it does stand on its own! The Guild did sometimes produce rare pieces and the four-sided nature of the lantern, with the same amazing detail on every side, is typical. As is the way the nephrite stones have been set on each face.
It is a glorious piece of work and in my opinion, this could well be the only one of these in existence. Every single tiny "hammer mark" by the craftsperson here reflects exactly the texture you would find on a full size lantern from the era. The nephrite jade stones against the patina on the lantern look stunning. The brooch measures approx 4.1cm in width by approx 8.4cm in height.
