AN EXTREMELY RARE VERY LARGE WILLIAM MOORCROFT'GRAPE VINE' LUSTREWARE JARDINIERE. THIS PIECE, ALTHOUGH NOT MARKED, WAS POSSIBLY MADE FOR TIFFANY AND CO. OF NEW YORK, AS THE GRAPE VINE PATTERN WAS MOSTLY MADE FOR EXPORT.

THE JARDINIERE COMES TUBELINED WITH TRAILING GRAPES AND FOLIAGE AGAINST A CREAM GROUND. THE UNDERSIDE IS MARKED WITH THE GREEN MOORCROFT SIGNATURE AND AN INCISED LETTER'B' APPEARS ON THE SIDE EDGE OF THE BASE. THIS EXTRA LARGE JARDINIERE MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 34CM IN DIAMETER AND 24.5CM IN HEIGHT AND WEIGHS IN AT 5.8 KILOS. IT DATES FROM BETWEEN 1900 AND 1906.

THE INTERIOR OF THE BOWL SHOWS SOME WEAR TO THE LUSTREWARE SURFACE POSSIBLY DUE TO STANDING WATER DURING ITS LIFETIME. THERE IS SOME CRAZING TO THE WHOLE OF THE JARDINIERE WITH SOME SHOWING AROUND ITS BASE WHICH ONE MIGHT THINK ARE HAIRLINES BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

THERE ARE NO CHIPS, HAIRLINES OR RESTORATION BUT SOME OBVIOUS AGE RELATED WEAR. A FINE AND RARE PIECE OF MOORCROFT WHICH DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY IN ANY SETTING.
