Ca. 1915 Fishel Sterling & Green Intaglio Necklace Art Nouveau- Deco Crossover
When you wear this and people ask if it's Art Nouveau or Art Deco, you can say'Both! The'fish symbol + L' mark dates the piece to Fishel's work 5-15 years past the turn of the century, affirmed by the design --a perfect snapshot of a period in flux, the tallest trees finding themselves shaded by skyscrapers, farmlands being bought and paved, and graphic design transitioning from the feminine to the masculine. This 16-inch piece features a rare front closure at the side of the pendant, the clasp is great, and the whole piece is sturdier than it looks; thanks to the full back framing in sterling, the glass cabs have no cracks or chips that I can find.
At the very back is a segment of silver beads, possibly original, but my guess is that someone broke the original sterling rectangle, using force to "open" it where they thought it should open.
