This ring is truly one I will have trouble parting with. I bought it from an antique dealer in San Diego on a recent trip.
I had thought it was some kind of glorious green moonstone. She chased after me when I left her store to tell me with was prehenite, not a moonstone. Prehenite is a pale green translucent gem that is often associated with unconditional love as well as dreaming and remembering. Just gazing into the surface of this ring reminds me of looking into a crystal ball, so I understand the association.
The cabochon measures 14mmx16mm amd has a high 10mm dome. Its estimated to weigh around 15 carats. The stone is a light seafoam green which looks whiter in some lights and has an otherworldly glow with light that travels across the surface of the stone much like a moonstone.
The setting is an Art Nouveau elaborate white gold filigree which has a leaf and scallop motif. I doubt the stone is original to the setting but its certainly a marriage made in heaven.
The setting has a very pretty undermount which just enhances the simplicity of the ring. The stone stands 13mm off the hand. The prehnite shows little to no wear under magnification.
It is secure in the setting. The setting is marked and tests for 10K. Currently a size 5.25 it can be resized by your jeweler.
