This is a pretty nifty desk lamp, probably by H. It is a electric lamp converted from an early gas lamp, very well done with all of its original charachter. The base of the lamp is like a grand daddy version of the later Emeralite desk lamp bases with its fluted column standing on a modeled brass covered cast iron weighted base plate. It is about identical to their later lamps, just larger. It stands 25 1/2 inches tall to the top of the chimney. The metal base part is 18 inches tall on its sculpted 7 1/2 inch base. The shade is 7 1/2 inches tall and 12 inches wide where it fits on the frame support arms and bubbles out to about 14 inches.
The green/white cased glass shade was probably blown into a metal frame to get the shape. Then, the area where the metal frame was, was gilded. Most of the gilding is there with just some normal wear for a lamp this old. The shade is in excellent condition with the glass chimney sticking out of the top flares of the shade. Again, check out the photos.
The lamp is unmarked as to the maker although there is a "N" on the edge of the shade and some number/letter markings on the bottom of the cast iron part of the base. All shown in the photos. The lamp has been correctly rewired and works perfectly. Just a great looking early lamp for your home, office or desk.
