Antique Art Nouveau Edwardian 9ct gold pearl and peridot pendant

  
A stunning antique 9ct gold Edwardian pendant set with seed pearls and peridot gemstones. The pendant is stamped'G&W 9ct'.

It has an integral ornate bale set with seed pearls. We only include chains when they are original to the piece and this pendant arrived without so a chain is NOT included. Photos are for illustration only. We do sometimes have antique gold chains listed separately.

This is an original, genuine antique piece of jewellery supplied in a vintage box (not original to the piece but evocative of the period). Condition : Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age. Approx measurements: 43mm length with bale 21mm width Seed Pearls are small natural pearls, usually less than 2mm in diameter. The use of seed pearls in fine jewellery throughout the latter part of the 19th & early part of the 20th centuries was immensely popular.

Elaborately decorated brooches, pendants, pins and earrings were very representative of fashion at the time. Pearls have an association with purity, chastity and delicacy. Pearl is the birthstone for June and 30th anniversaries. Peridot is one of the most visually striking gemstones, with its mix of bright summery greens and gorgeous, glowing golden tones.

It has long been associated with luck and historically, there was a belief that Peridot could ward off evil spirits.
