Antique Art Nouveau Cairngorm / Peacock Eye Pattern Glass Bowl - Stuart & Son - c. This is a beautifully made and stylish hand blown glass bowl dating from approximately the first decade of the 20th century. The main body of the bowl is clear lead glass, but set around the flattened rim are 6 green'eyes' - officially the pattern is known as Cairngorm, but it's frequently referred to a'Peacock eye' on account of the applied green roundels. The green eyes are set within a clear glass roundel and these have little stems that trail down the edge and meet in the middle of the base on the underside.
As is usual with Cairngorm glass, the underside of the base has a polished pontil mark. Its diminutive size doesn't lessen the quality of manufacture, and its size makes it ideal for display with with other similar pieces. The bowl measures approximately 11.5cm across and has a height of approximately 8cm. The width across the base is 6.2cm. The unpacked weight is 188.6g. The condition all round is excellent, with no faults to report. There are no chips, cracks or other damage to the surface of the glass. There are a couple black speck inclusions within the glass, but these are due to the manufacturing process rather than being a fault. The underside of the bowl has some wear to the rim of the base where it has been moved around on a surface, but these are not intrusive marks in any way. All in all, this is a lovely collectors piece, and it displays wonderfully!
