A pair of highly collectable Doulton Lambethware Art Nouveau taper jugs
A pair of highly collectable Royal Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau taper jugs. This pair of beautiful tall taper jugs are by Royal Doulton. A lovely form and both are in in very good condition. There are some superficial marks inside on the lips of both of the jugs (see photos) but these do not go through to the exterior of the jugs and I think they may have occurred during the firing process? I bought these in the 1990s purely because I loved them; they were always kept in a display case in my smoke free home. The jug glaze has a soft majolica-like feel to it and is an attractive mix of blues and greens with raised designs around the top section. The pattern number is 7423. Each jug is 20cm / 8" tall and 8.5 cm / 3.5" diameter at the base. On the bases of both jugs are impressed letters and numbers: G590 and a lower case letter'd' with two squares next to it - indicative of the artist being Olive Dale. Both jugs also have a capital initial letter H scratched on them which could relate to another artist; possibly, for example, Alice Herapath.
