TH3719 Elusive Asymmetric Art Nouveau Majolica Tile John Barratt Rd. Style: Art Nouveau Technique: Embossed majolica Maker: John Barratt Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: 1906 (registered). A fabulous bold art nouveau design, well known yet elusive. Seen in several colourways this very lively yet easy on the eye. Barratt apparently made relatively few art nouveau designs but made them all in many colourways. An interesting genre having a symmetrical flowerhead with asymmetric leaves and stems, there are quite a few such but this probably the most dramatic. Despite the strong asymmetry a great sense of balance to the design the boldness of the leaf allied with the formality of the stems. In fine condition, two very tiny rim chips/losses, minor surface marks.
