AMPHORA Czechoslovakia Art Nouveau Pottery 10.75 Bird Vase
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for an attractive Amphora pottery Art Nouveau style vase decorated with a pair of full-figured birds mounted on top rim, c. This unusual vase has a mottled olive green background with a thickly applied brown slip branch with blue foliage. Vase is marked with two incised mold/design numbers "4525" and "21" with oval "Amphora, Made in Czechslovakia" stamp. Measures 9 3/4" high with an overall width of 7" and a base diameter of 4 3/8. Weighs just over 2 pounds. The vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws or repairs. History: Amphora refers to pottery produced by the Reissner Amphora Works in the Turn-Teplitz region of Austria (now the Czech Republic) during the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts era. There were about 30 ceramics manufacturers using the kaolin-rich clay found in this area to produce art pottery during this period and this pottery is today collectively referred to as Teplitz, however, only one company actually used the name Amphora.
