Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a nice American majolica novelty owl pitcher, c. The pitcher features a standing owl with twig handle with pink flower at the top that matches the color of the owl's eyes.
The interior of the pitcher has soft pink coloration. Although this pitcher is only marked with an "X", this design is pictured on page 42 of the book "Majolica Pottery" First Edition by Mariann K.
Marks and the pitcher illustrated has the Marley mark. Of Wellsville OH produced majolica during the last quarter of the 19th Century. Measures 9 3/4" high, 6" wide (from mouth to handle) with the base measuring 5 1/4" in long and 3" wide. The pitcher is in excellent Estate condition with nice colors and good glaze - no chips, cracks or repairs.There is a faint crack/scratch and a raised speck in the pottery under the glaze on the inside neck that occurred during production.
